The liver bird ˈ l aɪ v ər b ɜːr d is a mythical creature which is the symbol of the english city of liverpool it is normally represented as a cormorant and appears as such on the city s arms in which it bears a branch of laver seaweed in its beak as a further pun on the name liverpool. The design remained largely untouched in subsequent years though the oval surrounding the liver bird was done away with in 1968 while kits produced between 1976 and 1985 reproduced the logo in yellow stitching. To day we are able to give an exclusive picture of the liverpool football club s new flag the old one has become torn and tattered in the exigencies of the service and was more like a big shirt the tale of which was told and the tail shredded. A redesign in 1955 saw lfc added to the crest which featured on home shirts for the first time as it has ever since.
